UF student protesters resist final nominee Ben Sasse for school presidency

The University of Florida’s final candidate for presidency held three forums on campus but was forced to leave one of them early as roughly 300 protesters entered the building.

The school’s Presidential Search Committee’s recommended controversial Sen. Ben Sasse, R-NE, for the position. This didn’t sit too well with some students.

That’s because Sasse has taken on highly conservative views since being elected to Senate in 2015, like the opposition of gay marriage and the forgiveness of student loan debt.

Protesters can be heard chanting “hey-hey, ho-ho, Ben Sasse has got-to-go!” as they moved up the stairs of Emerson Alumni Hall.

Students saw Sasse being escorted out of the campus as a small victory. The Q&A session was heavily scripted with questions required to be submitted well in advance.

Sasse’s next campus visit is scheduled for Nov. 1. According to UF, he will be interviewed by the Board of Trustees on Nov. 11.
