Feeding Tampa Bay teams up with Florida Focus

Feeding Tampa Bay and Florida Focus are working together to help make sure no one goes hungry this holiday season.

Students at the University of South Florida’s newsroom program are collecting donations. The drive will run through Dec. 1, collecting any non-perishable food items. The professor of the program, Dr. Stephanie Anderson, said she was happy to work with the charity.

“I am proud of my students for taking an interest in helping those in our community,” Anderson said. “They have the opportunity to not only raise awareness about hunger in the Tampa region but to also play an active role in making sure no one goes hungry this holiday season.”

The boxes are placed around the first floor of the Zimmerman School at USF, next to entrances. Anyone can drop off donations at the boxes.

Disney Springs donut shop expands to Tampa

A popular donut shop in Disney Springs, Everglazed Donuts and Cold Brew, opened a new location at Downtown Tampa’s Sparkman Wharf, on Monday.

The donut restaurant is a favorite for guests at the Disney shopping center. The shop offers more than 20 fun flavors to choose from. The head chef for the new location CJ Johnson, said he was excited to open the new establishment.

“We’re taking a concept that was originally at Disney, and bringing it out of Disney, with the possibility of actually franchising,” Johnson said. “Being the person that’s ultimately responsible for it is very exciting.”

In addition to their specialty donuts, the Tampa location also serves chicken and fries. Some of the donut options rotate seasonally, but the classic flavors stay year-round. Customers said they were excited to try the sweet and savory food options.

“We’ve walked by a couple times and saw that the signs were getting ready to open up,” customer Kevin Heal said. “So, this is my first time trying it, but I’m really excited.”
