MacDill Cemetery, Boxes of Hope & Meteor Shower

MacDill Cemetery

There may be another forgotten African American cemetery in Tampa Bay. Investigators are working to figure out if it’s under the MacDill Air Force Base. A day before this announcement, Hillsborough County announced that 145 caskets were found under King High School. In August, archaeologists found nearly 130 caskets in an all-black cemetery under a Tampa housing project.

School Superintendent Jeff Eakins attended a news conference on Wednesday.

“These appear to be coffins or voids in the soil where coffins have decayed over time,” said Eakins.

E-Scoters in Clearwater

The streets of Clearwater will soon have more traffic than usual in the form of e-scooters.

The City Council is voting tonight in regards to the regulations for a one-year e-scooter trial program.

Based on resident complaints, the board will vote on regulations to restrict the number of scooters and their operating hours. If this gets passed, there will only be two vendors on the street supplying 200 scooters. The e-scooters will only be available between 6 a.m. and midnight.

This program reverses the city’s ban on scooters that were put into place at the beginning of this year.

Natalie Sawyer is a spokeswoman for Bird and expressed her thoughts on the matter.

“Bird has found that residents and visitors eagerly want alternative forms of transportation, and based on our vast experience, riders embrace our vehicles regardless of destination,” Sawyer said.

Boxes of Hope

With Thanksgiving just one week away, Metropolitan Ministries needs help filling their shelves. The boxes include items such as a turkey and other essentials to make a complete holiday meal. They also included new food for each family to last them up to three days. They still need another 75,000 pounds by next Wednesday to make it through thanksgiving.

“It is truly humbling to see families in need, and as an organization that values people, we are honored to serve those who are less fortunate. We want to be among the willing hands that give hope to others during the holidays,” said Roy Edgerton, CEO of Analgesic Healthcare.

Harvest Hope Park

After five years of work, Harvest Hope Park is now open to the public in Tampa’s University Area. The park’s purpose is to create a safe space for families to relax and play.

Harvest Hope Park features walking trails, a fishing pond, a sports field, a playground, and sports equipment for adults. It also has a 33-bed organic community garden where the produce is free to residents. There is also a teaching kitchen where residents learn new methods of cooking healthy foods.

Meteor Shower

A rare unicorn meteor shower is happening tonight around 11:50 p.m. Scientists are expecting over 400 meteors to soar through the skies.

The only other sudden outbursts occurred in 1925, 1935, 1985 and 1995.

To have an excellent view of the shower, make sure to find an elevated spot away from the bright lights, and use a telescope or binoculars.
