A young boy ran onto the field Sunday and was tackled by security during Tampa Bay’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. His age is still unknown, along with his name.
A woman has identified herself as the mother of the child, and she claims that the boy is only 10 years old. Officers later reported that the boy is older than 10, but information cannot be released since he is a juvenile. He was given a citation, and a police spokesman said the case now goes to the prosecutors.
“So he has to meet certain criteria and everything,” Durkin told the Associated Press. “It goes to the State Attorney, and they review it to see what happens there.”
No charges were filed, but the child did get a citation under the Juvenile Arrest Avoidance Program. The program is an alternative to arrest for those between the ages of 8-17 who commit a first-time misdemeanor.
Suspect in shooting of homeless family arrested in Tampa
Police have arrested a Tampa man charged with the shooting of a homeless family of five sleeping in their car.
Christopher Stamat Jr., 21, was arrested by Tampa Police Department on Saturday in a North Tampa neighborhood near E. Bearss Avenue. Stamat has been charged with six counts, including one attempted murder in the second degree with a firearm, four counts of aggravated assault with deadly weapon and shooting at, within, or into a vehicle.
Police said Stamat is the owner of a black 2-door 300 series 2012 BMW, which was seen in multiple recordings of surveillance footage on Wednesday in the area of the shooting on N. Oregon Avenue. Detectives were able to acquire a search warrant for Stamats’ car and residence. The detectives found an empty gun box of 9mm bullets and spent shell casings that match the ones at the scene of the crime.
“Our community as a whole can sleep easier tonight knowing the suspect linked to this monstrous, random act of violence is no longer free to prey on innocent people,” said Chief Mary O’Connor in a press release. “I cannot thank or commend our detectives enough for working so quickly to identify and arrest this suspect.”
