The Bulls did some great work over the break, bringing in a national championship title, a tennis win against Florida Atlantic University and getting in some football practice for the spring game.

University of South Florida high jumper, Romaine Beckford, competed at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He finished with a jump of 2.24 meters earning USF its first Indoor Championship title. He entered the championship third seed after winning the American Athletic Conference High Jump Championship with a leap of 2.26 meters, setting the USF and conference record.

The head coach of the USF track and field and cross country program spoke highly of Romaine.

“I am so happy for Romaine,” head coach Erik Jenkins said, “He has worked extremely hard to put himself in a position to compete for the national championship he just won.

USF men’s tennis took on FAU on Wednesday in a home game. The Bulls were looking for redemption after losing 4-0 at the previous meeting with the school. USF entered the match winning five of their six prior games and a three game win streak.

The Bulls came from behind to take the win after the Owls had taken the advantage. The Owls tied up 3-3 going into the final match where the Bulls were able to take a win 4-3. This puts USF on a four game win streak as they head into their match against Wichita State on Sunday.

USF’s Spring Game for football is only three weeks away and the team has been practicing. The Bulls have some difficult matchups on their 2023 schedule, but this year’s Spring Game will give an early indication of the team’s performance. First-year head coach Alex Golesh has players and fans excited as he brings some change to the team.

Last season, Golesh headed his previous team, the Tennessee Volunteers, through a successful season. Under his leadership the Vols led the nation in points per game, yards per game and yards per play. A lot of eyes will be on the bulls offense this year with expectations high under new leadership.

Offensive Lineman Donovan Jennings said that Golesh’s offense is exciting and that fans will enjoy the Bull’s new style of play.

“This is honestly like nothing we have ever had before, you know the offense is very fast tempo, very electric, very in your face and ready to get after you,” said Jennings. “I think its great for our guys that we have here and I think our guys will do very well in this offense.”

The Bulls also have new leadership on the other side with Todd Orlando as the new Defensive Coordinator. Orlando is looking to match Golesh’s “rapid fire” offense with his own style of defensive play. The two coaches have competed against each other in the past and Orlando spoke highly of the new coach.

“That’s probably the biggest attraction for me is knowing you’re going to someone that’s going to be very very detailed very very thorough sharp as heck,” said Orlando. “Obviously what he accomplished at Tennessee is unheard of offensively so it was a really cool combination and Its great to be here.”

The Spring Game will be held on April 15th at Corbett Stadium. Kick off is at 7 p.m. but pregame festivities will begin at 5 p.m. The Bulls 2023 season will start on September 2nd at Western Kentucky.
