The Bulls were busy this week as the men’s and women’s basketball team started conference tournament play, while the softball and baseball team faced some fierce competition. A record was also broken in track & field.

Men’s and women’s basketball played in the American Athletic Conference tournament in Fort Worth, Texas. Ranked #1 in the conference, women’s basketball had high expectations going in to the first round against #8 Wichita State University. Unfortunately, their run would end there, losing 65-53. This loss is just a bump in the road for them as they look ahead to the NCAA tournament at the end of the month. Coach Fernandez had some great words on twitter after the loss.

“We didn’t do a great job today we missed a lot of shots but they were the better team they played with a lot of heart so congrats to them,” said senior Elena Tsineke. “But we can’t be sad because we got to keep going and the season is not over”

The men’s team, ranked #8, also came up short in their first round game against #9 East Carolina University with a score of 73-58. Tyler Harris, a fifth year senior, led the team with 26 points in his last ever collegiate game.

After the game Harris, reflected on his time at USF.

“I just got to play the game. I was able to get comfortable throughout the game all season,” said Harris. “I feel like my coaches and my teammates they lived and died with me, so I’ll just never forget that so my extra year will be my most memorable in college”

Softball had a really busy week with 5 games including a double header and the start of the USF Tournament. Their first game was against Penn State, resulting in a 3-2 loss after a comeback from the guests. South Florida player Hallie Bryant made headlines though with her spectacular catch, even making the SportsCenter Top 10.

Bulls’ baseball took on Pittsburgh University, winning 2-1, making that 8 consecutive victories over the panthers. South Florida’s bullpen was on fire as pitchers would strike out 14 batters. The second most for the team this season. Sophomore Nolan Hudi struck out a career best 10.

Infielder Eric Snow would also make the SportsCenter Top 10 with an amazing catch over 2nd base.
