BayCare provides grief support groups over the holidays

BayCare Health System is hosting a series of virtual grief support group meetings for both patients and people who are not BayCare patients.

“In our Grief Matters programming, you’ll see that we’re offering virtual programs in a series of community forums focusing on the grief journey…,” said Bereavement Coordinator Rebecca Bass in a newsletter. “Explore ways to find support and how to provide it. Acknowledge and navigate the secondary losses that come about following the death of a loved one.”

The virtual grief support meetings were in-person but BayCare shifted them online during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year the meetings will be online to have a wider reach and greater accessibility to community members who need the counseling.

“I think one of the most important things to know about grief is that each person’s experience is unique to them. We often simply offer permission to people to feel whatever they’re feeling. To navigate their grief in the way that they feel needs to happen.” Bass added in a BayCare’s podcast episode.

BayCare offers a series of four fall, winter, and spring programs each year.

USF men’s soccer team kicks off tourney vs. Hofstra University

The USF men’s soccer team will be up against Hofstra University for the first time in program history as it starts play in the NCAA tournament. USF lost to Florida International University, 2-0 in the American Athletic Conference ending the team’s five match winning streak in the AAC Tournament final.

The soccer team received an at-large bid from the National Collegiate Athletic Association to play for the college cup on Nov. 14. This will be U.S.F.’s 22nd tournament appearance.

“I like that we didn’t have to wait long on the brackets, that’s good. We’re at home. I think we earned that. So let’s go to work,” said Head Coach Bob Butehorn.

USF’s ratings percentage index is at 34 as of Nov. 17. The winner of USF v Hofstra will travel to Kentucky Wildcats.
