Co-owner of WeVegan Eats, Sandra Elvira Carson, was in search of a vegan cookie but couldn’t find one to suffice. In response, she created her own.
“After buying many cookies and searching around town we finally decided to start playing with recipes ourselves” said Carson
WeVegan Eats is located on Manhattan Avenue in South Tampa. The location opened in 2021, but the company was founded in 2017 and quickly picked up steam.
Veganism as a whole has grown in popularity across the United States in recent years. According to Gallup polling, those who identify themselves as vegan rose from 2 percent to 3 percent from 2012 to 2018.
“Sales of plant-based foods grew three times faster than overall food sales in 2021,” according to Hemi Kim of Sentient Media.
Numbers such as these are why WeVegan products can be found in and at many local retailers in the Tampa area.
Items such as “Oreo Cookie Bombs” and the “Gluten Free Sampler Box” are just some of the many options available in house and for online ordering at WeVegan Eats.
“This is something the community needed, as far as a coffee shop, a good breakfast, baked goods. Somewhere where people feel comfortable, creating a sense of, you know, humanity. Being able to have a place where everybody can feel comfortable, come in, whether you’re vegan or not“ said Carson.
