The coronavirus has changed the way campuses look due to social distancing regulations. Florida has the third most COVID-19 cases reported according to the Center for Disease Control.
Colleges, such as University of South Florida, take these rules and regulations seriously. Campus capacity is down because most students are attending class virtually. Those students who attend classes in-person are socially distanced and required to wear masks.
USF student Brendan Fortunato has class on campus and says the guidelines changed the classroom setting.
“It is definitely a little bit strange because everybody is spread out and you can’t sit next to anybody. Wearing the masks are different because everyone is wearing masks,” Fortunato said.
With the social distancing rules and masks mandates, there are numerous signs around campus reminding student of the rules. Chairs are marked off and capacities are set for enclosed spaces. USF student Jonathan Pyles has noticed the signs walking around campus.
“A lot of the benches are covered, when you walk around, you see tons of things covered. You can’t sit down. There are a lot of social distancing signs, it’s crazy,” Pyles said.
The rules are there to ensure the safety of students and faculty while on campus.
