The Student Government at the University of South Florida is operating remotely this semester. Tampa Campus Lt. Gov. Zachary Blair-Andrews shared how the pandemic has affected communication among Student Government members

“We have to schedule a meeting on teams,” Andrews said. “That has lead to a lot of meetings, which you know, to discuss every little thing because we are not in person with each other.”

Majority of the USF student body has online classes this semester. Tampa Gov. Spencer McCloskey explained how his team ensures students stay updated while they tackle classes from home.

“We started releasing press releases weekly to say, hey this is what we are doing. If you want us to do something else, shoot us an email,” McCloskey said.

McCloskey is looking at the positive outcomes despite challenges from COVID-19 regulations.

“We are probably already two initiatives done, which is almost unheard of,” McCloskey said.

This experience has helped Andrews develop skills for the future.

“It is making us, you know, better people,” Andrews said, “and definitely preparing us for real world jobs where we will have to juggle a lot of things, too.”
