8 – Vehicle Crash
A crash involving eight vehicles shut down southbound lanes of US-19 in Pinellas County today. The crash happened around noon and the accident included a PSTA bus.
Two deputies performed CPR on the bus driver and Florida Highway Patrol reports that the bus driver is in critical condition. Drivers were asked to take alternative routes while the crews investigated the scene.
The closed lanes reopened at around 2 p.m.
Lottery scam
A new email scam has been reported after the amount of the Mega Millions Jackpot winnings pool increased to $970 million. The email tells recipients that they have won a million dollars and the way to collect their winnings is by entering their personal financial information.
The email features Mega Millions logo making it harder for people to realize that it is fake. If you think you might have a scam email the Florida Lottery offers examples of scams here.
The Florida Lottery urges recipients who receive an email scam to report it immediately by calling the Florida Lottery’s Division of Security phone number at (850) 487-7730.
Mom Accused of Murder
Cami Lee Moyer, 38, is accused of killing her 9-month old son. Her son was found unresponsive inside a hot car this past August.
The car was parked outside of the family’s home. The father attempted to perform CPR until first responders arrived. The boy later died at the hospital.
She is accused of third-degree murder, child neglect with great bodily harm and child neglect without great bodily harm. She pleaded not guilty and her next court date is scheduled on November 13.
Active Shooter Drills
In the wake of several mass shootings, the Sarasota Police Department is conducting new active shooter drills.
All of Sarasota County Schools’ Police Officers, Sergeants and Regional Response teams will be there for the training. The end goal is to provide officers with further instructions on unit procedures and protocols following a shooting.
The training will take place Oct. 19 at Gulf Gate Elementary School. No children or faculty will be present on the campus during these training drills.
County Fair
The Hillsborough County Fair is kicking off opening night tonight with dollar night.
Fair Entry and rides will cost $1 each. Parking for the event is free and the fair runs through October 28th. The Hillsborough County Fair focuses on youth agricultural programs, competitions, and down-home fun.
It takes place on two extended weekends: Oct. 18-21 and Oct. 25- 28. This year’s theme is Good Times & Country Rhymes.
There are livestock shows featuring sheep, cows, goats, and chickens, as well as a milking contest, swine show, and grooming events, among other animal shows and displays. Special events include a rodeo, a truck and tractor pull, a horse show, and a demolition derby.
