Wrong-Way Crash

Five people, including a Hernando County deputy, were injured in a wrong-way car crash.

The wrong-way crash. caused a chain reaction making a deputy rear-end the blue sedan.

The crash took place in Spring Hill at around 1:15 a.m.

Investigators say a red sedan was driving the wrong way which was westbound on Spring Hill Drive. The red sedan then hit a blue sedan that was driving eastbound. The crash caused a chain reaction making a deputy rear-end the blue sedan.

All five people were transported to a nearby hospital but no one suffered from life-threating injuries. Deputies are investigating why the red sedan was traveling the wrong-way and charges are pending.

Teacher’s Aide Arrested

Quinton Bradley, a teacher’s aide and assistant at G.D. Rogers Garden Bullock Elementary School, was arrested for child abuse.

Security cameras caught Bradley throwing a bouncy ball at a 5-year-old boy with autism during recess. Investigators say Bradley admitted to tossing a ball at the young boy because he wouldn’t stop crying. The boy was knocked into a fence several times.

“I’m a parent of small children. I was disgusted. I was angry. Shocked. We put faith in our teachers. We put faith in our people who watch our children. This person violated that trust of a parent,” said Captain Brain Thiers of the Bradenton Police Department.

According to video footage, a teacher was also sitting nearby during the incident and she may face charges as well.

“Teachers, doctors, law enforcement, emergency personnel, we’re all upheld to that standard. If we see child abuse or even signs of child abuse or neglect, we are required by law to report that,” said Captain Theirs.

Bradley is on paid leave. Meanwhile, the teacher accused of witnessing the incident is still working at the district, but with no contact with students.

Self-Service Kiosk

They have created the self-service kiosk, the first in Florida that allows customers to register their vehicle in as little as two minutes.

The new self-service kiosks allow for quicker vehicle registration.

According to Hillsborough County Tax Collector Doug Belden, the kiosk is friendly and easy to use. You just type in your license plate number, birth date or PIN number printed on your registration renewal notice and then pay. The kiosk allows cash or credit card payments.

Belden says, “It’s important to note that you may only renew your registration at the self-service kiosk if your registration has NO stops or holds.”

2019 Strawberry Festival

Make your way down to the Strawberry Festival because it’s officially open for business.

This year’s theme is “It’s A Hit.” The festival is located in Plant City for an 11-day community event celebrating the strawberry harvest of Eastern Hillsborough County.

The annual event celebrates all things strawberry including strawberry shortcake, milkshakes, and even lasagna. The festival also has plenty of rides, games and shows to choose from.

The festival is bringing something new this year. For the first time ever, the festival will be hosting a Battle of The Bands featuring local artists.

The festival is open through March 10 and gates open as early as 10 a.m.
