Tax Day

Tax day is here.

The deadline to file your tax returns is by midnight. If you need more time, you can also file for an extension.

If you have already filed, you can treat yourself to some tax day deals. Sonny’s BBQ is offering the Irresistible Ribs Special (IRS) deal Monday with half-priced Sweet & Smokey or House Dry-Rubbed Rib dinners. BurgerFi is offering a $4.15 BurgerFi Cheeseburger on Monday if you purchase it through the BurgerFi app only. Go to www.burgerfi.com/rewards to download the app.

There are other businesses offering deals on Monday, April 15 like Applebees, Office Depot and Planet Fitness. Hopefully, these sweet deals help those agonizing feelings of owing the IRS this year.

Boat Capsized

A boat accident sends 13 people into the water.

The accident occurred Sunday, April 14, in the Gulf of Mexico near Anclote Key.

The crew on the pontoon boat started to notice that the water conditions were getting worse and the boat flipped over in the water once they attempted to turn it.

“As we turned around, a big wave overtook,” Passenger, Loryn Decker said. “And it was just within 30 seconds the rest just started going down. It happened so quickly, happened within 30 seconds.”

They panicked because none of the passengers had a life jacket on.

“Luckily my dad saved me and dragged me to the boat,” Passenger, Allona Haynes said. “I got one of the seat cushions to hold me up. I thought I was going to drown.”

All 13 passengers survived the accident with only scrapes and bruises.

Pasco County Fire Rescue officials said that a combination of inexperience and rough weather conditions could be the reasons why the boat capsized.

The passengers were lucky to be alive.

Early Voting

Early voting is proceeding for the Tampa mayoral run-off election. Tampa voters can now cast their ballots for the city’s next mayor.

Seven polling locations opened yesterday, April 14, and will remain open until Saturday, April 20.

Go to www.vote.org to find out what voting location is closest to you.

Voters can also vote-by-mail ballots at any of the early voting locations. Vote-by-mail ballots have been coming in at a steady rate and voter turnout has already been higher than expected by 11 percent.

It is impossible to confirm who Tampa votes will favor, but it is widely known that a higher turnout favors Jane Castor in the mayoral race. Castor finished the municipal race with 48% compared to her opponent, David Straz, who had 15%.

Whether it be at one of the seven locations or by mail, continue entering your ballots. The run-off begins April 23.

USF Lip-sync

University of South Florida (USF) has high hopes to score a spot on national television.

The USF Police Department has received attention from CBS News for its lip-sync video of Panic at the Disco’s song called “High Hopes.”

CBS News is producing a show called “Lip Sync to the Rescue.” It will feature law agencies across the world.

You can visit www.cbs.com to vote for your favorite video.

The top 10 finalists will be on a live television broadcast before one winner is chosen.
