Tampa restaurant aimed at millennials serves up meals made with love

With Tampa being a very culturally diverse city, it is no secret that there is food that will fit everyone’s palate, and Yuppi Tampa is doing just that by adding unique flavors to the foods that we love.

Found in Ybor City, Yuppi Tampa opened its doors to the public in September 2020. Owners and co-founders Kyle and Mammie Luke opened the self-funded Tampa restaurant after Kyle lost both of his jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We serve Black American food,” said Mammie Luke, CEO and co-founder of Yuppi. “We don’t call it soul food. We call it Black American food because I just feel like it’s, it’s Black American food. Um, and we just put a twist on it and basically play homage to it and just, you know, respect where it comes from and just elevate it. The next level.”

Kyle Luke is the restaurant’s only chef, and with this role he is able to show the passion he has for his business to the surrounding community. Luke is serving the community everyday with the utmost amount of love, and that can be seen through the flavors in their food.

“He’s literally feeding the city by himself. You see that one man cooking? He’s feeding the whole entire city right now,” said Mammie Luke.

The owners consider the word Yuppi to be defined as progressive millennials who stand up for what they believe in, and will not take no for an answer. Yuppi Tampa serves as a safe haven for each creative adult that walks through their front doors.
