Tampa Bay Food Tours provides chance to eat, drink, learn

The Tampa Bay Food Tours offers a unique experience that lets you enrich yourself in the cuisine and culture of the area.

The tour lasts around three and a half hours and comes equipped with a guide to take you through your food journey.

While on the tour you will be taken on a trek through whichever location you choose ahead of time. You can choose from Tampa, Dunedin or St. Petersburg. Each tour takes you to four-five different restaurants, starting with appetizers and drinks and ending with desserts.

The food tour owner said her service is a good way to discover new places to eat.

“So I take food tours wherever I travel, and I found a void in this market in terms of that experience,” said Kimberly McAvoy, the owner of Tampa Bay Food Tours. “It’s a great way to get to know an area. It’s always going to be local, independent restaurants. Some are more formal than others, and you know some offer alcohol, some don’t, but it’s always a guided experience where they are sharing their knowledge of the local area.”

The tours go on rain or shine. When booking your tour, you should try to plan for the weather since part of the tour involves walking around outside. On the tour, you will not be expected to walk more than two miles, but you should still wear a pair of comfortable shoes.

On this tour, reporter Julio Martinez starts at Malio’s Prime Steakhouse. After finishing up there he moves on to the Spain Restaurant. He then moves onto the Gen X Tavern, and then Kafee & Kabab. The tour finishes with Peterbrooke Chocolatier.

“To me all tour guide work is about community, meeting people and helping people meet each other you know whether it’s just over a few hours, whether it’s over a week. It’s like I just get to see people it’s like the best part of humanity,” said Heather Polk, the tour guide for the night.

Each tour is six-12 people. The groups are kept small for a more personal and private experience. Not only does this tour allow you to meet new people and gain new experiences, but it also teaches you about the history of Tampa through the food.

Booking the tour is super easy all you have to do is look on their website and pick a time that works for you.
