Soul food spot near USF booms after rebrand

Located just minutes away from the University of South Florida, Soulful Flavors Crave is a black, veteran-owned soul food restaurant and a must-try for students around the area.

Chef, owner, operator and USF alum Andre Warren first opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant back in May 2021 called Dre’s Dub’s Kitchen & Grille. Recently, Warren combined his restaurant with a friend’s bar. Now re-branded, the restaurant offers a varied menu ranging from seafood to one of its most popular dishes: Hennessy Wings.

“What you should know is that you’re walking into a family-friendly environment,” said Warren. “It’s good food, good vibes, Black-owned business, veteran-owned, USF Bull alumni-owned, and you’ll just expect good service and good food.”

In terms of the most popular dishes, Owen mentions that “the oxtails are still a favorite, but my egg rolls are very, very popular.”

Recently, the restaurant has seen an increase in students visiting.

“It’s a lot more students coming to this location,” said Warren. “The food connection has grown.”
