Shooting leaves 3 dead, 2 injured at UVA

A University of Virginia football player from Miami was among three killed last night in a shooting at the Charlottesville campus.

Junior linebacker, D’Sean Perry and two other players were shot and killed on a bus that had returned from a class field trip. Two others were shot and injured. The shooting happened on Culbreth Road and the parking garage, about half a mile north of the Lawn and the Rotunda.

According to UVA Emergency Management, Police said the suspect, Chris Darnell Jones, was apprehended on Monday morning after a manhunt that lasted more than 12 hours and involved multiple law enforcement agencies.

Jones, is a student at the University, who was a football player in 2018, but never appeared in any games.

The suspect, ex UVA football player, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. has been taken into custody. The university police chief said after the capture, “We just need a moment. Thank God and breathe a sigh of relief.”

University of Idaho students found dead

Across the country, students at the University of Idaho are also mourning the loss of four of its students.

“It is with deep sadness that I share with you that the university was notified today of the death of four University of Idaho students living off-campus believed to be victims of homicide,” University President C. Scott Green told community members in an email.

Police have identified the victims as Ethan Chapin, 20, of Conway, Washington; Madison Morgen. 21, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Xana Kernodle, 20, of Avondale, Arizona; and Kaylee GonCalves, 21, of Rathdrum, Idaho.

No one is in custody and the police department says it “does not believe there is an ongoing community risk.”

An official cause of death has not been released. But there is an active investigation underway.
