Sarasota enjoys the fruits of blueberry farmer’s labor

Blueberries held in a white bucket

Blueberries are running rampant in the Sarasota area thanks to a passionate local farmer who invites any and all to enjoy the fruits of their labors.

Sarah Albritton co-owns Albritton Farms and says Sarasota has a rich farming history. They have been farming for over a hundred years. It’s one of the reasons she and her husband started the U-pick event where residents around the area can come and pick from their blueberry fields. The event, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is seven years running and lets families experience some of Sarasota’s agrarian roots. Albritton Farms allows people to get a traditional and wholesome experience.

Albritton said, “My husband’s family is the oldest-run family business in Florida they started out with citrus we’ve done cattle corn cotton peanuts and this is blueberries in Florida.

Pickers can find four different kinds of blueberries within the 25 acres of land such as Spring High-Blue, Jewel-Purple, Emerald-Green, and Arcadia Orange. Pickers visiting Albritton Farms can also find different types of honey. You can even get your hands on a blueberry-flavored honey.

Albritton Farms is located at 9600 State Road 72 in Sarasota, and U-pick is available from April 5-9
