A former teacher has been arrested after alleged inappropriate contact with a student.
According to the Haines City Police Department, 25-year-old Jeremiah Stringer who taught math at Haines City High School has been charged with having sexual contact with a 17-year-old student.
Investigators say the 17-year-old girl’s father called 911 after she had told him she was upset about a rumor at school that her and the teacher were in a relationship.
The girl reportedly told police the teacher, Jeremiah Stringer, met her in his classroom on Oct. 7, while few students were on campus. According to investigators, she explained that he kissed her and grabbed her before she performed sexual acts on him.
Investigators say lab tests confirmed Stringer’s DNA on the girl’s clothing.
Stringer is charged with custodial sexual battery on a victim older than 12 but younger than 18, a first-degree felony.
Polk County Public Schools say he was fired in October when the school was made aware of the allegations. In a statement sent to parents. the school district described the behavior as unacceptable and askes that anyone with more information about the crime to contact the Haines City Police Department.
Non-Certified Sheriff’s office employee arrested
An employee of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office was arrested and charged after a domestic dispute.
Deputies say 26-year-old Devan Machado got into a heated argument with his fiancée at their residence in Seminole. The argument became physical with the fiancée ending up with a bruise above her right eye.
Machado was arrested and charged with one count of domestic battery.
