Pinellas Man Shoots Father, Walmart Hiring Military Spouses, and More

Walmart Prioritizes Military Spouses

Walmart has a history of hiring veterans, now they’re extending that commitment to their spouses. More employees at Walmart will have a military connection.

The company is now giving hiring preference to military spouses.

It’s now the largest U.S. company to make such a commitment. This comes from the military spouse career connection, a new initiative by Walmart. It complements the 2013 veterans welcome home commitment.

There are more than 500,000 active-duty military spouses nationwide. Around 77% of them need or want work.

Walmart also has the Military Family Promise, which enables the ability to transfer locations when a spouse is transferred because of the military.

Pinellas Man Arrested for Shooting Father

A Pinellas man has been charged with murder after he called 911 and told the operator that he shot his father.

Evan Costello told a 911 operator that his dog became sick earlier in the evening after eating one of his dad’s pills. “I don’t know, I just got upset, we were arguing,” Costello said when he called 911.

When paramedics arrived at the Tarpon Springs home, they found Costello’s father, James Costello, dead. According to police, the shooting is being investigated as a domestic homicide.
