Illsol Murals
Studies show that murals promote a sense of belonging, attachment and welcoming. That’s what local artists, Tony Krol and Michelle Sawyer, want to bring to Tampa with their business, Illsol.
Illsol made a mural on North Tampa Street that was paid for by an 8th grader who launched a GoFundMe for a school project. Krol said that they wanted the mural on North Tampa Street to have the feel of a Tampa Heights backyard. They accomplished this by incorporating cardinals, native wildflowers and magnolias into the artwork.
Illsol has done interior murals, installations and outdoor murals. They are open to working with cities, private clients and individuals to create artwork that speaks to viewers.
You can find their work on Instagram at @_Illsol_ or contact them through their Facebook page, Illsol.

Cleaning the Stream
Hillsborough Community College students in Plant City are launching a new collaboration to preserve wetlands and recently started hosting stream cleanups.
“This is a protected stream that needs to be restored,” The Phi Theta Kappa president, Allison Wittier said. “And these elephant ears that we are taking out are an invasive species here in Florida.”
The students also adopted Wilder Avenue where they plant flowers and pick up trash.
Keeping Beaches Clean
Students in the Tampa Bay area are helping the environment one beach at a time.
The Suncoast Chapter of Surfrider Foundation is working to keep this region beautiful. The Surfrider Foundation is a grassroots activism organization. They’re dedicated to protecting oceans, waves and beaches.
USF St. Petersburg students are a part of the Florida team. They’re working together to clear the trash that collects on beaches.
“I also like to see my beaches clean and everywhere I like to go clean,” The Suncoast Chapter president, Natalie Howard said. “I think other people enjoy a clean beach so it’s pretty important to me.”
The Suncoast Chapter of Surfrider Foundation is completely run by volunteers.
