A shooting in Orange County has left three people dead after a man went on a shooting rampage throughout Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspected gunman, Keith Melvin Moses, shot multiple victims, including a Spectrum 13 News reporter, as well as a 9-year-old. Moses, a 19-year-old Pine Hills resident with a lengthy criminal record, was taken into custody Wednesday evening. For now, it is unclear what the motives were for the shooter and if the reporter was his target.
Moses was charged with shooting and killing a woman in her 20s earlier in the day at the scene of the later shootings.
Neither law enforcement nor Spectrum 13 released the names of the victims, which also included two others who were in critical condition Wednesday night. UPDATE: The journalist who was shot and killed has been identified as Dylan Lyons. He was a University of Central Florida graduate.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office posted a tweet with information about some of the victims on Thursday morning.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd released a statement reassuring local media.
“We are stunned and heartbroken hearing the news out of Orange County that three people were fatally shot, and two others are fighting for their lives,” Judd said. “We would like the news media who report in Polk County to know that if you ever find yourselves in a situation or an area where you feel unsafe, to please call us and we will send deputies out to your location to protect you.”
