Preparing for Special Olympics
A local community for people of all abilities is preparing for the Special Olympics.
Noah’s Ark of Central Florida’s The Villages at Noah’s Landing is a residential community for people with developmental and physical disabilities. Residents of The Villages are looking forward to the upcoming Special Olympics.
Alicia Peet has been a Special Olympics cheerleader since 2018. The team she cheers for won first place in the county finals last year. Whenever a team places first in their sport, they get to play in the State Summer Games held at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports.
“I’m very excited for this upcoming season,” Peet said. “Because it’s a ton of fun and a great way to stay in shape.”
Noah’s Ark of Central Florida, a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1997, tends to the unique day-to-day needs of individuals with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities by offering an array of lifestyle choices.

Theatre eXceptional
A St. Petersburg theatre company is casting people with disabilities.
Theatre eXceptional is a nonprofit theater that believes that the world of theatre suffers from not including people with disabilities.
On Theatre eXceptional’s Facebook page, you can find their story.
“Theatre eXceptional aspires to create innovative theatre and performance art with, for, and about people with disabilities,” Theatre eXceptional said. “With the goal of addressing and eliminating the misconceptions and social stigmas so often placed upon these communities that inhibit their full acceptance into our society.”
The theater puts on one musical each summer with a cast of primarily disabled performers as well as a fall play annually that consists of a combined cast.
