Governer Ron DeSantis is quelling fears of the coronavirus in Tampa tonight following press conference today.

DeSantis said, “There are no coronavirus cases in Florida.”

“We’ve hosted countless major, national events here and each year, as we conduct medical surge exercises to test our hospitals and medical system response capabilities,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said at a news conference Thursday. Florida has created a web page where they said they will publish any new information on the epidemic

Nationally, only 11 international airports are still taking flights from China. Tampa residents may text “Tampa Ready” to 888777 to get real-time texts about coronavirus and other emergency situations.

Presidential primary voting begins Monday at select polling locations

Early voting in Hillsborough County begins Monday and continues through March 15. Select polling places are open all week during that time from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

According to the latest survey from St. Pete Polls, Joe Biden is on top in Florida with 34% of support among Democratic primary voters. Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg rounded out with 25% support.

Ahead of the March 17 primary, voters can cast an early ballot at any of the polling sites

In order to vote for the Preference Primary Election, one must be registered with one of Florida’s major political parties. This year’s early highlights six new locations: the Apollo Beach Community Center, Austin Davis Public Library, Northwest Elections Office, Providence West Community Center, Southeast Elections Office and the USF TECO Hall (David C. Anchin Center). To vote early or on Election Day, voters must bring at least one valid form of identification. Valid IDs include a Florida driver license, state-issued identification card or a U.S. passport.

USF hosts Second Annual Transportation Day

USF closed one of its major roads on campus to celebrate Transportation Day.

The event kicked off at 10:30 am with a “Ribbon Closing” and shortly after, USF President Steven Currall,  USF Bicycle Club and USF Police Bicycle Squad lead a bike ride around campus. The university is encouraging the Tampa Bay community to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

USF shut Holly Drive from USF Myrtle Drive, just after the Crescent Hill Garage, to USF Genshaft Drive, for students, faculty, staff and visitors. The car-free streets were host to a full lineup of events featuring student competitions, USF police-led bike ride and more.

Transportation Day is hosted by the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) and College of Engineering, Element Engineering Group, Bike/ Walk Tampa Bay and the Florida Department of Transportation District 7.
