President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden will host separate Town Hall meetings Thursday night instead of the typical presidential debate.

Biden will be hosting his town hall on Thursday at 8 p.m. on ABC, moderated by George Stephanopoulos. While President Donald Trump took this opportunity to host his own event with NBC. Trump’s town hall will be on the same time as Biden’s event. However, anchor Savannah Guthrie will be moderating the presidents town hall.

The second presidential debate that was to be hosted last week in Miami had been moved to an online platform after Trump became infected with COVID-19. When Trump, however, learned the debate was to be held virtually he pulled out immediately and decided to host his own town hall. Trump’s event will take place outside of the Pérez Art Museum. Biden’s town hall will take place in Philadelphia.

Many voters took to Twitter to express their anger and disappointment in the change of events. The third and final Presidential Debate is still scheduled for Oct. 22.

Stop Bullying Day needed more because of rising anxiety, stress

National Stop Bullying Day this year is more important to our nation’s students as bullying is back on the rise.

According to the the World of Children Organization, there are over 3 million students being bullied every year. Today recognition is designed to bring together not only students but school staff in an attempt to educate young children on bullying and its effects.

While bullying comes in many shapes and forms, one thing is always true: it has an effect on not only the child’s mental health but also their physical well-being. USF student Hannah Halili recalled her experience with bullying during high school.

“It took a toll on my confidence and mental health on top of everything. I felt like I was alone in many ways,” Halili said.

Anxiety and depression have almost tripled since last year, according to a survey by the Commonwealth Fund. Many parents, students and teachers have become fearful that online bullying will continue to rise due to the increased amount of time students spend online during the pandemic.

“It’s so hard to see the light and what’s coming forward, but I promise that it will get better,” said Halili.

The U.S. Department of Human Services has a hotline that’s available 24/7 to assist in the stopping bullying, 1-800-273-8255. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-8255. The Suicide National Hopeline is 1-800-784-2433.
