Manatee County deputies have arrested a man for killing and setting fire to the body of another man.

Last Wednesday, 35-year-old Antonio Maurice Bradley was found dead on M-J Road in Myakka City. Around 11:20pm late Wednesday night, someone who lives nearby found his body alongside M-J Road and called 911.

Aaron Koziak, 38, was initially arrested on unrelated charges after being identified as a person of interest.

Koziak admitted to detectives to killing Bradley and setting his body on fire. Tuesday afternoon, a judge charged him in the murder of Bradley.

Fire Rescue

Firefighters responded to a fire that destroyed a family’s home early Tuesday morning around 1am in Lithia.

Homeowner Charlie Meadows was asleep in a camper on the property when he realized smoke was coming out of the home.

He was able to break through his adult daughter Kasey’s bedroom window and save her and the family dog before the home was engulfed in flames. Kasey’s two daughters were not home at the time.

No one was injured but officials say the home is a total loss.

Downtown Clearwater Makeover

Five teams of artists have been hired by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) to transform five buildings into murals by adding artistic designs and vibrant colors to celebrate the diversity among residents.

The idea is to tell the story of Downtown Clearwater’s past, present and future from multiple perspectives.

The murals will be started on Nov. 19 and will be completed by the end of January.

VA Award

James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital via U.S. Departments of Veteran’s Affairs

James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital received the Cornerstone Award for the ninth consecutive year, given by the VA National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS) to recognize leaders in VA patient safety.

The NCPS program looks at close calls reported by staff and adverse events to try to prevent future occurrences from happening and ensure patient safety.

They conduct a formal analysis and take into account “patient safety events that caused or could have potentially caused harm” to determine which hospitals are doing the best job.

James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital once again achieved Gold Level, the highest achievable level in the program.

Turkey Drive

The law firm of Carey Leisure & Neal in Clearwater hosted their third annual turkey drive on Tuesday.

Families in need of a turkey for Thanksgiving waited in line to get one of five hundred turkeys available for giveaway.

Clearwater Police were also on hand to assist with the efforts.
