Multiple Murders, Dive Training and Breast Cancer

Spree killer detained

A triple murder suspect is in custody after an overnight standoff with police.

Polk county deputies cornered Stanley Mossburg inside a Winter Haven home early this morning. Sheriff Grady Judd called Mossburg a “spree killer.”

“We know that he’s killed one person in Greenville Tennessee, and he’s killed two people in Winter Haven Florida,” said Sheriff Judd in the press conference.

Mossburg claims there were more victims, however, this has not been confirmed by police.

Last night Wayne Juhlin shot and killed his 80-year-old wife who was suffering from dementia. Detectives say that he was going to take his own life after calling 9-1-1, but the gun malfunctioned. Juhlin was arrested shortly thereafter.

Police dive training

Forty officials from six local agencies are now prepared for water rescues after today’s joint dive training.

“This is exhausting but we train here because swimming across the bay is exhausting. Because when we have to go fight somebody in the water, that’s exhausting,” says Nick Wilson of the Tampa Police Department.

Ten teams jumped out of helicopters and swam three miles across Tampa Bay to practice saving someone. Officials participated from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department, Tampa Bay Fire and Rescue, the Tampa Police Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Forty thousand women die of breast cancer every year. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is dedicated to promoting early detection.

“Stage zero and stage one breast cancers have a 100% survival rate at five years assuming that you are treated appropriately and you get in for your screening early,” says Anna Widmyer.

Widmyer’s sister has breast cancer and now she speaks at events like this to raise awareness and encourage others to get tested.

One in eight women in America will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

There are over three and a half million survivors.
