Active Search for Gunman
Venice Police are searching for a gunman who shot a man multiple times in a parking lot of PGT Custom Windows and Doors, located on 1070 Technology Drive. The victim had been taking a break from work when the gunman approached his vehicle.
The gunman approached the victim’s car, opened the car door, asked the victim for his name and then shot him. The gunman then walked away.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to locate anyone,” said Captain Eric Hill with the Venice Police Department.
Officials believe that there is no threat to the public and that this was not a random shooting. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is stable condition.
Woman Killed in House Fire
A house fire killed a woman early this morning in Dade City.
Flames broke out this morning at a home on Southview Avenue near 14th Street. A nearby jogger smelled smoke and flagged down an officer for help.
“We’re very proud of our officer for making that quick response,” said Brian Uppercue, lieutenant of administration for the police department. “First for finding the home so quickly and then for doing everything that he could to gain entry into the home.”
The officer responded to the scene and found dark, heavy smoke inside. He broke a window to look inside and found someone on the floor. The officer found his way inside the house through a door and dragged the woman outside.
Paramedics tried to save her. The woman’s identity has not been released and investigators are now calling the fire suspicious.
Mayor Arrested
Maurice Nelson Campbell Vice Mayor of Fort Meade is arrested for stalking and harassing a woman with threatening messages. The Polk County Sheriff’s office started an investigation after receiving a complaint from a woman.
According to detectives, Campbell repeatedly harassed a woman and accused her of having an intimate relationship with her husband.
“The victim has put up with this harassment for quite some time, and she finally reached a breaking point, said Polk County Sheriff Grady Juddd. “This is not proper behavior for anyone, let alone an elected official.”
Campbell is facing a felony aggravated stalking charge.

According to Trip Advisors, Clearwater is the best beach in America and number six in the world. Clearwater has been awarded as the number one spot three times in the last four years.
“The sugar fine white sand is a trademark of this fabulous beach. Perfect for a day in the sun. You might even spot a dolphin or two playing on the horizon,” TripAdvisor wrote on its website.
In addition to Clearwater, Floridians are surrounded by top-ranking beaches. Panama City is ranked number three with St. Pete beach following and Pensacola Beach as number five.
