Tampa bike shop boosts profits during the pandemic as cycling takes off

While some small businesses in Tampa have closed their doors during COVID-19, others have profited from unexpected business.

Many people have turned to outdoor activities to spend time during quarantine. Owner of City Bike Tampa Kevin Craft said his business increased during the pandemic.

“We actually had somewhat of a backwards experience to a lot of businesses,” said Craft. “March, April and May were huge for us. We were fortunate to get a bump initially.”

Even if their business is booming, employees such as Sarah Myhre are making sure they are still following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

“Work looks different. New policies, masks and things like that. We ask that everyone that comes in wear a mask, and we have a sign on the door,” said Myhre. “We offer hand sanitizer. We do sanitize the bikes after we touch them and before we touch them. Sanitize the credit card machines, all of these regular things that fit in pretty easily to the new routine.”

Places such as City Bike Tampa that are profiting during this time still think that in-store capacity and supplies needed for safety will still be concerns in the future.
