After the reconstruction of the John’s Pass bridge in 2010, the FDOT left “rip-rap” in the waters of the John’s Pass Channel, leading to an increase of sand build up making it harder for local businesses and wildlife to operate. This sand accretion has led to the endangerment of marine mammals by disrupting their migration patterns.
Even after the money has been raised to help with this problem, local officials still have not acted on the issue. USF student journalist Nicholas Bozeman looks at the issue through the eyes of a family-owned marina in Madeira Beach.
