Plane Lands in Water Near St. Pete Airport

Albert Whitted Airport by Newpilot

A local flight school plane landed in the water near Albert Whitted Airport in St. Petersburg.

Four people were rescued by the Coast Guard and a group of good Samaritans. The good Samaritans began helping the people on board the plane before the Coast Guard arrived and brought the people to shore.

One of the people onboard has been taken to the hospital, but there were no life-threatening injuries reported.

According to St. Petersburg fire officials, the pilot tried to land at Albert Whitted Airport but overshot the runway. All four people on the plane are expected to be OK.

Sketch of Attempted Kidnapping Suspect Released

Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has released a sketch of the suspect in Monday’s suspicious Moon Lake incident.

On Monday, around 5 p.m., a 10-year-old girl reported a man in a tan, four-door vehicle with no license plate pulled up to her and told her to get in his car.

The suspect told the girl that he was friends with her mother and offered to take her to go get candy and ice cream. He drove westbound on Banbury Avenue, after being told that the girl would call 911 if he didn’t leave her alone.

The victim described the man as a black male, medium skin tone, in his 20s with black hair and brown eyes. The girl said the man had cornrows and facial hair.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a red tank top, black shorts, gold chains (with a dollar sign pendant) and had a tattoo of a naked woman on his upper right arm.

Anyone who can identify the suspect is asked to call 911 immediately.

Tampa Police Searching for Suspects Accused of Fatal Shooting

The Tampa Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying armed suspects accused of fatally shooting a man and threatening his pregnant girlfriend.

The suspects had handguns and demanded money from the 19-year-old woman in her home.

The woman’s boyfriend, Cristian Velazquez-Osorio, got up to respond to the commotion and one of the suspects shot him. He died from his injuries.

Surveillance footage shows a four-door silver vehicle that may be involved.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477 or the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 813-247-8200.

USF Students “Paws and Relax” Before Final Exams

Students at the University of South Florida are finishing up their final projects and studying for final exams.

With high levels of stress, anxiety, and exhaustion, the USF Center for Student Well-Being invited dogs and other animals to help students cope during final exams. Students were able to take a break from study to pet and play with a variety of certified therapy dogs.

Marielle Skairus, a USF psychology student, was able to attend the Paws and Relax event this afternoon. “I was so happy when I saw the dogs outside of the library. I am on my way back to continue studying for my exams,” said Skairus.
