This means that the Hispanic population is the fastest-growing portion of Florida’s electorate as the country heads into the 2020 presidential election.

Mayoral election

The Tampa mayoral election starts tomorrow at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

Candidates Jane Castor and David Straz have been fighting for the public vote for the last 15 months. Straz, a retired banker, has spent millions of dollars in ads attacking Tampa’s former police chief. Despite the attempt, Castor finished 33 points ahead of Straz in the general election.

According to a poll from the Tampa Bay Times, only 6 out of 168 political experts think Straz will win the election.

Double shooting

Early this morning, a double shooting occurred at The Spot on 26th nightclub in Bradenton. Two people were inside the club with the shooter when a verbal argument broke out. The argument continued outside after the club closed for the night. The argument escalated to a physical fight and soon after the shooter pulled out a gun and shot both victims. The condition of the victims is unknown.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at (941)-747-3011.

Free bus rides on Earth Day

The Tampa Bay Area celebrated Earth Day this year by offering free rides on Hart buses. US Rep. Kathy Castor took a ride on a Hart bus to discuss green initiatives with passengers.

According to Hart, “switching to public transportation can reduce your carbon footprint by 48 hundred pounds of carbon dioxide annually.”

Car seat trade-in

Target is encouraging and rewarding customers for trading in their old car seats. Families can recycle car seats for 20% off a new car seat, stroller or other select baby gear. Car seats of any condition will be accepted.

Most of the used car seats will be recycled to create new items like grocery carts, plastic buckets and construction materials. In the past, Target has recycled 7.8 million pounds of car seats. Target will be accepting used car seats until May 4.
