Order, curfew draws huge support

Hillsborough County has officially issued a “safer at home” order after a unanimous vote in its favor. The order will take effect Friday at 10 p.m.

The decision was discussed in a teleconference meeting this afternoon held by the county’s Emergency Policy Group. The meeting was attended by various media outlets and county officials, including Commissioner Les Miller Jr. and Director of Emergency Management Tim Dudley, Jr.

The ‘safer at home order’ encourages everyone to remain at home as much as possible to limit the risk of virus infection. Anyone who can work remotely is advised to do so. However, those who provide essential services may continue to go to work, provided everyone stays six feet apart.

“I do understand that we cannot please everyone in this county. We’re doing our best to ensure we’re not shutting down every business,” Commissioner Miller said.

Restaurants are closed for dining-in but are open for 24-hour delivery, drive-thru and take-out.

During this order, residents are allowed to continue daily activities, such as: grocery shopping, exercising or going to the doctor. However, persons should not go out unnecessarily or gather in groups of more than 10.

“As long as this virus is in Hillsborough County and the state of Florida… this order will stay in place. We wanna keep people safe,” Commissioner Miller said.
