A Florida resident was denied entry back into his home state on Wednesday after being diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Three other Florida residents had been diagnosed prior to this, all of them in the Tampa Bay area.

Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed today that although this fourth patient is from Florida, he is currently self-isolating in Washington state until he tests negative for the virus.

“And so, that will count in terms of how the CDC does it, in terms of the residents of Florida who have tested positive, but is not somebody who is in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said.

The governor also expressed praise for the current administration’s travel restrictions made against China in response to the epidemic and for the screening of flights from Italy.

The state is currently awaiting test results from other potential outbreaks within its borders. According to DeSantis, 11 individuals in Manatee County are under self-isolation until the results come back.

Tampa officials have allowed two major events coming to the city to continue despite the worry about the coronavirus.
