The 2020 elections are Tuesday. According to the Census Bureau, young people ages 18 to 29 have the lowest voter turnout. In order to get students to the polls, the Florida Public Interest Research Group is encouraging them to register to vote.
Campus Organizer Crystal Boutwell is one of the staff members working with students across the 16 colleges and universities in Florida.
“We helped 10,000 students across the state register to vote in the 2018 midterms,” said Boutwell. “Now we are working on the same voter registration and mobilization campaign.”
Florida PIRG aims to shape the future using student led campaigns and initiatives including 100% renewable energy, affordable higher education, break free from plastics and more.
“As a college student, each vote that we pass will be affecting our future, and it all starts with registering to vote and getting that information out,” said Alyssa Guarino, another campus coordinator.
Volunteer and career opportunities are available to help spread awareness.
