Cyber Monday Security
Following the popularity of Friday’s Black Friday, today’s Cyber Monday is set to bring in over $7.8 billion in sales, making it the largest online shopping day in history.
However, despite the convenience of shopping in the comfort of your own home or on a laptop or smartphone in a public setting, there are various risks taken while engaging in online shopping, including the possibility of hackers retrieving credit card information.
To prevent such risks from occurring, Cyber Monday shoppers are advised to do the following: Don’t use public wifi unless you know that it’s secure Use credit cards for purchases. It makes it easier to dispute fraudulent charges.
Make sure to use strong passwords for bank accounts to keep your finances safe.
Hands-Free Law to be Implemented
Texting while driving may soon become a primary offense in Florida.
A bill was filed today in the Florida House of Representatives in pursuit of strengthening the laws against handheld cell phone use while driving. Now, texting while driving is a secondary offense meaning that motorists can only be cited if stopped for other violations.
In the Senate, however, there is a similar proposal. If this bill becomes a law, officers will be allowed to pull drivers over for texting.
Gas Price Drop
Gas prices in Florida have hit the lowest prices of the year. Across the state, pump prices averaged around $2 and 42 cents per gallon, serving as the lowest price since December 2017. AAA says that crude oil production in the U.S., Russia and Saudi Arabia led to the mass decrease in prices.
Salvation Army Hiring Bell Ringers
The Salvation Army is looking for bell ringers for their red kettle campaign. In Hillsborough County, there’s a volunteer shortage. There are 130 different locations where volunteers could be ringing bells, however, 66 spots still need to be filled. 83 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to local programs.
Ybor Christmas Tree Lighting
Volunteers this morning helped set up and decorate a 30 foot Christmas tree in Centro Ybor, making it the largest Christmas tree in the entire historic district.
The lighting ceremony will take place towards the end of the week, which will include caroling, hot cocoa and plenty of holiday cheer. Ybor’s Christmas festivities will officially begin on Wednesday.
