Bay Area first responders are helping with hurricane relief
Last year, the panhandle deployed first responders to help with hurricane, now it’s the Bay Area’s turn.
Early this morning TECO sent nearly 300 workers to help get power back on in areas affected by Hurricane Michael. Pinellas County and other Bay Area first responders are also heading out to help in any way they can.
The Florida disaster fund is now active. If you want to help out you can text the word “disaster” to 2-0-2-2-2 to make a one-time donation of $10. You can also send a check to the Volunteer Florida Foundation.
School bus involved in collision while carrying students
A Pinellas County school bus rear-ended a tractor-trailer on Thursday morning. Florida Highway Patrol said the bus was carrying six high school students on Ulmerton Road when the bus collided with the vehicle.
Four students were taken to a hospital for minor injuries. Troopers cited the bus driver for careless driving.
Two Bay Area homes involved in car crashes
A car crashed into a St. Petersburg home early Thursday morning. The 81-year-old homeowner said she narrowly escaped the collision. Images released by the St. Petersburg Police Department show the car partially inside the front of the home.
In a separate incident, a car crashed into a Largo home. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital; however, no one was in the home at the time.
Police say no one was seriously injured in either accident.
Ammonia leak causes high school evacuation
Haines City High School was forced to evacuate after a reported ammonia leak. Officials say the leak occurred at Sun Orchard Juicery, which is less than a mile from the school. Students and staff were evacuated as a precaution and classes were cancelled for the rest of the day.
The Haines City Police Department says hazmat teams contained the leak.
Tampa ranked tenth in the nation for real estate investment
According to an annual survey of real estate professionals from around the world the Tampa Bay Area is one of the best places for real estate investment in the nation.
Tampa ranks tenth on the list overall. This is partly because of the city’s relatively low house prices. Recent reports show that the region’s population is growing at twice the national average.
