Brand-new parents, Jordan and Taylor Meyers, are a typical family trying to raise their 2-month-old baby during a time of uncertainty. Of the almost 116 million births during the pandemic, theirs was perhaps the most difficult for any new parent to endure.
“Quarantine has really put things into perspective, and I’m sure a lot of people have felt that way,” Taylor Meyers said.
The birth of baby Kayden was far from what the Meyers family had expected. Along the way, Taylor was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, which effected her diet and energy during the pregnancy; Kayden was born with a heart defect.
Because of Covid-19, visitation was extremely limited, which made it hard for Taylor to enjoy those first weeks with her son.
“We had to switch off. Only one of us could go each day. You couldn’t leave and the other one come back the same day… that was really hard,” Taylor explained.
Kayden stayed in the NICU at Saint Joseph Children’s Hospital, where he was treated for two weeks until he was deemed healthy enough to come home.
“All of the doctors and Nurses at Saint Joe’s were absolutely amazing,” father Jordan Meyers said.
