The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is doing its best to help animals find homes.
Due to the large numbers of animals filling shelters throughout the area, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay does it’s best to prevent animals from being euthanized by taking them into their facility. They typically host 10,000 animals a year that need homes.
“We never Euthanize for space at the Humane Society, but we work with other shelters that do trying to bring their animals off the euthanasia list,” said Liz McCoy, volunteer manager at the Humane Society.
One major problem for this large scale of homeless animals is the sale of puppies and other pets in pet stores around the area, more than 50 communities in Florida have worked to restrict these sales. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay accepts many animals from the community. Families that can no longer take care of their pets can bring them here.
Pets that are on euthanizing lists in shelters are also taken in. Animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and even sugar gliders can be found waiting for a home in their facility.
Community members can help The Humane Society of Tampa Bay in many ways to care for these animals in need. Donating commonly used household objects such as blankets, towels, and bedding can provide warmth and comfort to the animals in order to sleep.
If someone already owns a pet but would like to help they can also donate food, treats, and toys their pet may no longer want for another animal to love. One of the best ways to allow the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to expand is by donating money.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay has been helping animals since 1912. Since 2004 they became a “No Kill for Space” facility. They have shelter services, lost and found pet services, pet surrender services for those that can no longer take care of their pets, full veterinary services, and provide pet owners with assistance programs.
Pet owners can visit The Humane Society of Tampa Bay if they are struggling to care for their pets. They offer dog obedience courses, food assistance, and distribution services, multiple veterinary services from their hospital, and humane euthanasia services to anyone who loves their pets, but needs some help along the way.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay loves welcoming volunteers that would like to help these animals in need. They also host events and programs to help promote these animals including the upcoming Island Paws Party on May 3.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is in the midst of building their DeBartolo Family Animal Shelter that will increase their capacity and allow them to save more animal lives. Estimated completion is mid to late 2020.
